Meribel, Mottaret - Resort Info

Part of the largest Winter sports area in Europe

Mottaret's full name is Meribel-Mottaret and is sometimes considered to be part of Meribel. However it is an independent resort and is three kilometres further (higher) up the Meribel valley from Meribel centre.

It is linked to Meribel by a free bus service but is in a more advantageous position for skiing in the Three Valleys.

At 1700m Mottaret is one of the higher resorts in the Alps. With direct access to Courchevel and Val Thorens, Mottaret is a good location for convenient snow sure skiing. The season in Mottaret generally runs from the first week in December until the last week of April.

Mottaret's major asset is its central location in the vast ski area of the Three Valleys and is best suited for intermediates and experts looking to make full use of the expanse of the Three Valleys. In Mottaret there are 21 lifts serving approximately 80km of piste. In Meribel there are a further 26 lifts serving another 80km of piste, with about 600km of pistes in the Three Valleys as a whole.

Night Life
Bars and Restaurants

Most bars close approx.01.00-01.30. Discos 04.00-05.00

Downtown Bar
Very friendly english speaking staff. Lots of tables, stools and leather sofas throughout. Reguarly shows live sport including english football and rugby. Happy hour 4pm-7pm when a pint is 3 euros, demi 1.50 euro and vin chaud 3 euro. Can also order pizzas from the restaurant above to be delivered into the bar.

La Chrismaran
Daytime restaurant which has all it's tables and chairs on the large terraced area by the piste. The terrace is a very nice place to have lunch as is sees plenty of sun but can get very busy. Serves food ranging from crepes to burgers. Crepes cost 4 euros and vin chaud 4 euros.

Happy Pizza
Takeaway counter next to DownTown and literally right next to the top of the truite piste. Serves burgers 3.50 euro, chips 2.70 euro, crepes 3.00 euro and drinks. The best place for a quick on the the move lunch.

Cote Brune
Very large restaurant with terraced area for lunchtimes and wooden chalet style interior for evening meals. It has a traditional Savoyarde 3 course set menu for 30.90 euros as well as one of the largest steak selections of the centre of mottaret.

Sandwich Savoyarde
Lunchtime takeaway counter next to the Sherpa supermarket. Serves paninis 4.50 euros and burgers 6.50 euro. Burgers are the best value for money snack in mottaret. Either montagne, thai or chicken all containing raclette cheese and VERY big!

Au Temps Perdu
Restaurant with lunch and evening menu. Lunch includes a variety of crepes. Dinner menu is very traditional with a choice of fondues, raclette and tartiflette. Interior is very cosy with exposed wooden beams.

Pizzeria Du Mottaret
Serves a large selection of pizzas around 14 euros as well as the Savoyarde specialities. Not quite so nicely furnished as au temps perdu or cote brune, but good pizza.

Le Rastro
This is the place to party in Mottaret. Tuesday night sees the famous rock party.

Featured a few years ago on Channel 5's ("On The piste") you are well advised to book a table for dinner as Le Rastro is renowned for it's "Table Dancing" and the only way to get a table to dance on is to book one early. Not to be missed under any circumstances.

Le Hameau
Open all day this bar is right at the top of Mottaret in the Hameau Apartment complex. Very warm, and friendly with a log fire in the centre of the bar. Perfect place for pre dinner drinks if you are eating up here.

Le Privilege Disco
Excellent on a Tuesday night (after the Rastro Bar Rock Party). Open till the early hours.

Le Zig Zag
This charming little bar is next to Le Rastro and has the only real Austrian Jagertee in the resort! Drink a few of these in the afternoon and you will find yourself transported back to the Tyrolean tradition of Tea Dancing in your ski boots.

Coco Loco
Previously known as the Sport House Café, this bar has changed style with a continental look. Also has Internet access plus electronic darts & video games. Stella, Leffe and others on Tap with hot snacks served all day.

Piano Bar
This is a relaxing up market style bar situated in the four star Hotel Mont Vallon.

La Vieille Creperie
A wonderful, charming little bar tucked away in the alley that leads up from the Centre towards Laitelet.
